Mini Sessions on Alameda Island

In May, I hosted a Mother's Day mini session on Alameda Island. Same day, same island, two completely different vibes of imagery. Perfectly encapsulating the range of magic that can be created not very far away from each other.

Each family is different in how I approach capturing them. I have my standard routine for composing my photos: scene-setting photos, portraits, details, and real moments.

I love directing during my photoshoots. It helps give ease to my subjects; they don’t need to worry about what to do; I start them off. Then encourage natural moments to happen by letting them move naturally through the direction.

This works particularly well with younger kids; their energy can create so many beautiful moments if we just embrace the unexpected. Can turn even the grumpiest kid into having a fun and good time. Or gentle enough that we give the little one some time to wake up from the nap they were taking on the drive over.
